Horticulture lighting tools and grow light calculators
Free browser-based calculators for those who design lighting fixtures, not just buy them. No installation or payment required: open the tool, enter what the datasheet provides, and get a number you can work with.
LED Spectrum Analysis
Manufacturers publish spectrograms as images, often cramming the entire range of color temperatures onto a single graph. This tool turns the image back into numbers: upload a screenshot from the datasheet, select a curve, and get a digitized spectral power distribution along with CCT, Duv, CQS, and TM-30. Two spectra can be overlaid for direct comparison, and the numerical array can be exported to CSV or JSON.

Light Dose and Coverage
These calculators answer the questions a grower asks before buying: how much light reaches the plant, how many hours to keep the lights on, and what the reading on a standard lux meter actually means.
- PPFD Simulator for Grow Tents↗ — photosynthetic photon flux density at the plant level for a given fixture and hanging height.
- DLI Calculator↗ — daily light integral from PPFD and photoperiod, with target ranges for different crops.
- Lux to PPFD Converter↗ — converts lux meter readings into µmol·m⁻²·s⁻¹ using the light source's spectrum.
Fixture and Hardware Calculation
The engineering side: what the board actually outputs and whether it will survive its own heat.
- LED Heatsink Calculator↗ — junction temperature for a given dissipated power and heatsink surface area.
- Far-Red and Phytochrome Simulator↗ — what far-red 730 nm does to PSS, R:FR, and plant morphology.
How the Tools Work Together
They are designed as a chain, not just a set of disconnected widgets. You start with a graph from a datasheet and digitize the spectrum. You input LED types and their efficacy into the PPF calculator to get the total luminous flux and µmol/J of the entire fixture. The junction temperature, required for thermal correction, is taken from the heatsink calculator. Then, you convert the fixture's flux into PPFD and DLI at the plant level to see if the crop gets what it needs. Each step takes the result of the previous one.
Greenhouse Lighting Calculation
Currently in development: a greenhouse supplemental lighting simulator considering natural light by season and latitude, the deficit to the target DLI, and the fixture power required to close this gap.
All these calculations imply real hardware. The LED boards, modules, and drivers around which they are built can be found in our catalog↗.
